Our neuropsychology department provides services to improve the social, psychological, and academic lives of children and their families. North Shore Pediatric Therapy provides Diagnostic and Testing at our Glenview, Highland Park and Bucktown Clinics.

Areas of Practice and Expertise

Our Neuropsychologists help to determine initial diagnoses and appropriate intervention avenues for children and is able to supplement existing evaluations in order to make sure all questions are answered.  Services include, but are not limited to: Neuropsychological Evaluation and Testing, Psychotherapy and an Academic Advocate Program.

They specialize in Learning Disabilities, Pediatric ADHD, Dyslexia, Anxiety Disorders, Asperger’s Syndrome,  Social/Emotional Concerns, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Complex Medical Conditions, Sleep Medicine and Developmental Concerns.

In addition, the team are able to serve as a means of support for families by establishing accommodations and interventions within the school setting.

Our Neuropsychologists operate as child and family advocates for academic placement and accommodations. The team has extensive expertise in establishing goals and appropriate placement within the academic environment. The team is experienced as advocates for parents at Individual Educational Plan (IEP) meetings, domain hearings, and school placement meetings.

In order to serve you better and provide quicker service with more expertise, our department has grown to consist of two Top Pediatric Neuropsychologists, one post doctoral fellow and a team of technicians!

Multi-disciplinary Case Management:
One of the new and exciting developments with the neuropsychology department is a focus on case management in which neuropsychologists will help lead team discussions with all clinical staff in order to monitor the multi-disciplinary care and ensure that each child’s needs are being met within the home, school, and clinic. The focus is on implementing empirically supported interventions in order to ensure that the child is able to achieve his or her potential.

Training Program:
The Neuropsychology Department has also developed an upper level graduate student training program. These students who are pursuing their doctorate in clinical psychology will have an opportunity to focus on developing their assessment and intervention skills. The standardized curriculum will enable the graduate students to develop their skill sets and knowledge with regard to neuropsychological assessment, diagnoses, various empirically supported interventions, and neuroanatomy.

Research:
NSPT is proud to announce the development of a research department. The Neuropsychology department has formed a working relationship with a pediatric clinical psychology research unit at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Department of Psychology. NSPT neuropsychologists and the post-doctoral fellow will help lead various research projects with masters and doctoral level graduate students. In the past year, NSPT has had two poster presentations at a national conference along with two publications in highly respected empirical journals.

Efficiency:
One of the aspects that the Neuropsychology Department prides itself on is efficiency. We realize that, when a family comes in for an evaluation, there are pressing concerns and a need for immediate information and treatment planning. The neuropsychologists strive to not have a lengthy wait list and also guarantee that the report will be mailed out within two weeks.

Communication with outside resources:
The Neuropsychology Department puts a major emphasis on having constant and transparent communication with outside resources such as the child’s parents, pediatrician, psychiatrist, neurologist, and academic staff. The goal of the neuropsychologist is to ensure that the architecture of the child’s needs is established and that all individuals, who are part of the team working with that child, have the necessary blueprint to ensure success.
