Physical Therapy Student Clinicals

Physical Therapy Student Clinicals

We love creating an outstanding experience for our clinical students! North Shore Pediatric Therapy clinicians work with children throughout the Chicagoland area, creating an Physical-Therapy-Student-Fieldworkideal physical therapy clinical  experience in an outpatient pediatric setting.

At North Shore Pediatric Therapy Physical Therapy clinical students who meet their university’s academic and clinical requirements are matched with experienced pediatric physical therapists to learn how to evaluate, create a plan of care, and implement treatment interventions for the pediatric population while incorporating evidenced-based practices into their work. Students are supervised by licensed physical therapists and participate in structured weekly mentorship meetings to guide their experiences within the clinic. Students will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of diagnoses and ages, and will also work with therapists from other disciplines to provide collaborative, holistic care for the children on their caseload. Students interested in a North Shore Pediatric Therapy Clinical experience should inform their faculty adviser of their interest and complete our Application Form or contact us at students@NSPT4kids.com. North Shore Pediatric Therapy will provide faculty and administration at the university with resources, materials, and information about an affiliation agreement upon request.

Providing Clinical Training Beyond the University

The purpose of the clinical experience is to provide students with an opportunity to take what they have learned in the classroom and apply that training in a multi-disciplinary clinical setting.  Since North Shore Pediatric Therapy specializes in pediatrics, we offer excellent opportunities for students to experience a wide variety of assessment and treatment practices for infants, toddlers, children, and teenagers with a variety of diagnoses and physical therapy needs.

Goals of the Clinical Program

The North Shore Pediatric Therapy Clinical Program is designed to:

  • Expose students to current, evidence-based physical therapy practices in a pediatric outpatient clinic.
  • Provide students with experiences that will prepare them to work as entry-level physical therapists.
  • Allow students to gain experience working with specific client populations and areas of interest.
  • Expose students to other disciplines, such as OT, SLP, SW, ABA and neuropsychology.
  • Enable students to gain the clinical hours needed to meet the requirements for graduation, certification and licensure
  • Promote communication and interaction between the university and North Shore Pediatric Therapy.
