Neuropsychology Student Program
North Shore Pediatric Therapy is a private therapy company with multiple locations conveniently located throughout the Chicago and North Suburban area. Our team is comprised of Neuropsychology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Social Work and Academic Specialists.
Our Neuropsychology Department is comprised of 2 Neuropsychologists, 1 Clinical Psychologist, a Director of Training, a Neuropsych Fellow, 3 expertly trained Psychometricians, and currently 6 students.
Our Neuropsychology Department has developed an innovative graduate student training program designed to meet both advanced and diagnostic training needs. Students who are pursuing their doctorate in Clinical Psychology will be trained in developing their assessment and conceptualization skills. The standardized curriculum and training program follows a developmental model that will enable you to develop your skill sets and knowledge with regards to neuropsychological assessment, diagnoses, various empirically supported interventions, and neuroanatomy, and report writing. Our developmental training model allows students the opportunity to participate in their own professional development and use each training session as an opportunity to reflect over previous sessions while setting goals for the future.
Our Neuropsychology clinic is located at 950 Lee Street in Des Plaines. It is conveniently located a half mile from Metra’s Union Pacific Northwest Line. All training and evaluations will be done at this location.
Our practicum training program is a 12 month program. It begins with a supplemental training every Friday in June and then runs from July-July. You are required to be onsite a minimum 2 days per week (18-20 hours/week).
As a practicum student at NSPT, you will learn and administer and interpret more than 70 different assessments! You will also develop and fine tune your clinical report writing skills and have opportunities to conduct intakes and feedbacks. Students generally exceed the amount of hours required to complete their practicum goals. We have weekly group and individual super vision along with an open door policy, and with three psychologists on staff, you are provided with ample support and resources. Didactics are held weekly to discuss cases, developments in the field, and topics of interest. We see a culturally diverse population comprised of individuals ages 1.5 years- 19 years with a broad range of clinical diagnosis (e.g.: ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning and language disorders, Tourette’s disorder, brain injury, emotional and behavioral disorders).
